Travel to Thailand can be relaxing or adventurous, depending upon what the traveler wants, from beautiful landscapes to scuba diving and from pilot lessons to golf. This exotic and accessible Asian country is where one can get around on a Skytrain or a three-wheel Tuk Tuk. Arrival in Bangkok airport is generally a pleasant experience for visitors. Getting through immigration, though, may take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes, but there are no hassles by officials. Tourists probably won't even have their bags checked. Several banks at the airport are ready to help with currency exchange, and they advise visitors to have small change if they are taking a taxi because drivers will claim to have none. Budget airlines have opened up to help tourists who travel to Thailand to get around the country.
Activities for visitors are varied and plentiful. Thailand has an extensive National Park System, where one can passively enjoy the breathtaking landscape, or take part in more adventurous activities like rock climbing, canoeing, motorcycling, river rafting, or scuba diving. Visiting this country, therefore, can be dangerous or thrilling. Doi Inthanon, in the northern part of the country, is one of the best birding sites in this country. Khao Yoi in the southeast part of Thailand is also a favorite birding area. Travel to Thailand parks can include camping for nature enthusiasts, and golf for the club swingers. In fact, the golf courses are among the finest in the world. Cooking schools will offer one-day courses to tourists. At the Chiang Mai Flying Club, one can become a licensed pilot. A pilot's license would give the country tour a different perspective. An overview of its heavily forested mountains, the river valleys would give one a greater appreciation for the beauty of the land. "The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun" (Psalm 74:16).
Modern Thailand was once called Siam, and it has a very diverse history. Current and recent archaeological digs have uncovered some remarkable pieces of the historical puzzle which is Thailand, so a history buff can find a lot of satisfaction in his/her travel to Thailand. If travelers want to read up on the country before their visit, Charles Kimball has written "A Concise History of Southeast Asia," which will provide a good background on the area. During a visit, vacationers will learn that its government is a constitutional monarchy, and the people hold their current monarch in very high esteem. If travelers want help in deciding when to go, knowing the weather patterns might help. It's hot and dry from March to May, and they get their rains from June to October. November through February, the weather is mild.
